Thanksgiving in West Virginia

We spent the Thanksgiving holiday in West Virginia! Christopher had a blast! He was great on the plane both ways. He is quite the flyer. Well, he peed through his diaper on the way back so I didn't appreciate that much, but other than that he was really great!  And yes, we changed his diaper before we got on the plane... he just had LOTS of water while in flight! He played with his cousins Thanksgiving Day and then again on Friday. He had his own normal bed to sleep in too! He did awesome sleeping in it. Of course we barricaded it everywhere so he couldn't fall out in the middle of the night. It was a little surprising though waking up one morning to him at the foot of our bed with a phone, saying- Mommy. Phone. Dada. Phone.

We stayed at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center and they pretty much had everything we needed right there- the Festival of Lights, The Good Zoo, the wedding reception and lots of halls to run in! Matt and I enjoyed some time at the West Spa there getting massages Friday morning.   Definitely a very fun and relaxing trip!

We were asked to write our Thanksgiving Thankful List and I wrote the normal things.... parents, Christopher, Matt, Anthony..... But I think what I am most thankful for are the experiences that we get to share with Christopher. I love watching him see all of these new things. I know that he won't remember his trip to Disney or going through the tunnel of lights or his first time swooshing snow, but I certainly won't forget them. I think that at this age, it really isn't about what HE remembers... it is what WE will remember. Matt made the comment that it makes him feel so good to see other people get joy out of watching Christopher and how true that is.

Playing in the snow with Nana Friday morning. Christopher loved the snow! He swooshed it around with his gloves and wanted to run across it.

A shot from the Festival of Lights. This was on location at the lodge that we were staying at. We went one night after bathtime. Christopher fell asleep in the car.

Choo choo!

These deer were right outside our window. In fact, I went outside to get Christopher his milk and looked up and there they were. Slightly scary to a wuss like me.  The room we had didn't have a fridge, but thankfully temps were in the 20s all week so we bought a half gallon and kept it outside the door in the ice bucket.

Gorgeous right? This picture makes coming home to Georgia very undesirable.

We took Christopher to Cabela's Saturday morning. He loved the aquarium part... actually he loved all of it!

After Cabela's we came back to Oglebay and went to the zoo there. The zoo had an indoor area, a model train exhibit and some animals outside!

It also had a dinosaur table that Christopher liked.

Trying to climb into the model train exhibit.

Outside there were llamas and goats and donkeys that you could feed and pet!

Matt looks frightened.

These are 2 of Christopher's cousins! They were so good with him. He wanted to kiss and kiss Francesca! They kept good care of him in the banquet room while we were busy decorating! It is amazing what entertainment a rolling cart can provide.

At the wedding- Thanks, Eric, for picking that booger out of his nose. Poor Christopher.

Matt, me and Anthony

Me and Lea! She referenced the blog while we were there. I love when people say "I saw on your blog..."

Me and Anth

Hanging out after breakfast Friday morning. Dino hangs from Christopher's mouth a lot.

Back at Cabela's....

And more snow!

And back at Cabela's. Christopher was very excited to see the ELEPHANT!!!

In front of the wildlife exhibit! I cannot wait for Cabela's to open here!

They had this blue tongued reptile for the guests to touch at the zoo. Christopher was all about it. Me- not so much. The blue tongue did me in.

The ride HOME from the airport. Tuckered out from 4 days of fun!

We started Christopher's 24 books of December last night! The book we opened last night was rigged though. We watched the Elf on the Shelf movie and then opened the Elf on the Shelf box and gave Christopher his Elf. He was very into the movie so when we gave him the box I *think* he knew what it was. We asked him what he wanted to name the elf.... and he said .... whoa. So therefore, our elf is Whoa. We opened the book that went with it last night and read that together. Tonight I will let him choose the book that he wants to read.

And some fun videos...

  1. Totally agree with you about "It isn't about what HE remembers…. it is what WE will remember". I could not have said it better.
That snow looked fabulous! So envious for the holiday like weather, it is 80 here!
